Mankind is different from the rest of creation. There are features which make our ancestry certain and yet there is no clear line of descent (the 'missing link'). We are like the apes and yet so very different both in appearance and intellect.
How has this come about? The way I see it may seem incredible...
Put yourself in God's shoes. He has designed and produced this most amazing thing: a beautiful planet, set in a beautiful heaven and teeming with beautiful life. What do you do now? You sit back and marvel at it, that's for sure, but wouldn't you eventually start to think: what is it like to actually be there? Wouldn't you want to touch and smell the earth, see and hear the amazing sights and sounds, to drink the water and taste the food? Yes. What joy that would be - to actually breathe the air; to be 'alive' on your own living planet.
The pinnacle of God's creation was an upright, two legged creature with clever hands and a sharp mind: probably a close descendant of Homo erectus. In a way which I can't even start to comprehend, God took two examples of this creature, a male and a female, and 'inhabited' them, making a new, human creature which was God on earth, both male and female.
And this was the start of something. It was not long before God, both male and female, had enjoyed union with each other and children were born.
Adam and Eve were God on earth and we are their descendants.
We are children of Man but we are also children of God.
